About Vincent Yang

Vincent Yang is an award winning pianist and pedagogue that has over 15 years of teaching experience. Ever since he began teaching his first student in high school, Vincent has found joy and fulfillment in helping students discover and hone their musical skills. Vincent's uncompromising dedication to see continuous progress in his students coupled with his patient and nurturing demeanor has endeared himself to many students and their families. Many of Vincent's students have tested well in RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) exams, participated in MTNA honors recitals, and prepared for state competitions.

Vincent began his musical studies in Ottawa, Canada at the age of 7. At the age of 16, Vincent made his orchestral debut performing Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor with the Torrance Symphony in Los Angeles, CA. As a young pianist, Vincent won prizes at numerous state and national competitions including the Glendale Piano Competition, Young Musicians Foundation Lieber-Stoller competition and the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition. 

 

Vincent enrolled at the University of Southern California for his Bachelors of Music studying with Dr. Stewart Gordon. Upon graduation from USC, Vincent attended the University of Denver on full scholarship and served as the head Teaching Assistant, Vincent taught undergraduate class piano as well as applied piano courses to non-majors and minors while receiving his Masters of Music. Vincent received first prize at the University of Denver's concerto competition and performed Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Lamont Symphony Orchestra. He also won top prize at the 2016 Grand Junction International Young Artist's Competition and performed the Liszt Concerto with the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Charles Latshaw.

Upon completion of his Master's of Music, Vincent pursued his Doctorate of Musical Arts under the tutelage of Tamas Ungar at Texas Christian University. At TCU, Vincent served as a Graduate Assistant with duties teaching class piano, private lessons, and group lessons along with accompanying instrumentalists. Vincent was an active member of the collegiate chapter of MTNA at TCU and presented a poster session at the 2024 MTNA conference in Atlanta. Vincent is expected to complete his Doctorate by May of 2025.
